Winthrop Undertaker elected president at state embalmers gathering
The Massachusetts Embalmers Association with over 1000 members held its 13th annual convention at Cottage Park Hotel. Winthrop undertaker Charles R. Bennison was chosen president for the coming year, the first time a younger man has held the post. The event drew about 300 attendees from across the state with a day of meetings, a reception, shore dinner, water and land sports, a 85 to 10 baseball game at Ingleside Park, banquet, and a theater program for members and guests.

Colored waiter drowns after wager at Point Shirley Club
Harry Andrews a colored waiter at the Point Shirley Club jumped into the lower harbor fully clothed to prove he could swim. Lacking swimming skill he sank within 30 feet and was recovered about half an hour later after a boat search prompted by a companion's alarm.

Body Found In Channel Near Snake Island
Two youths fishing near the Winthrop channel entrance saw a young man’s body floating in the water. It was brought to the government Wharf by the steamer Lieutenant Bumpus, examined by the medical examiner, and taken to the morgue by Undertaker Bennison. Identified as Fred McGinley, 17 Island Street, Roxbury, who last week tried to escape Rainsford Island by swimming.

A stylish audience filled every table at the Winthrop Yacht Club on Thursday. Commodore Blaze welcomed guests while Somerville's full orchestra opened the program followed by dances and songs from Barbara Johnson Messrs Welch Williams Nelson Turner Munroe and Mrs Charles A Grimes. The Grimes Williams duet drew encores and dancing continued to midnight with L L Flood and a committee including How ard Wheeler Harry Gardner Willard Bacon Jr and William K Burlen in charge.

Boy Struck By Train On Harbor View Bridge
Peter Zaccone six years old of East Boston was struck on the thestle bridge between Orient Heights and Harbor View stations. He suffered a fractured skull after crawling between timbers as a Lynn-bound train passed. He was taken to East Boston Relief Station after arrival at Orient Heights.

Charles Raby dies after three month illness in Brookline
Charles Raby died after a three month illness in Brookline. Though not a Winthrop resident, he was known to townspeople as his sister Sabina Raby and sister Mrs J C Nelson lived there for about 30 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev George S Fiske at 206 Lincoln Street, with interment at Cambridge Cemetery. Floral tributes came from family Hillman Auto Supply Co and U C P F members, among others. W Skaggs supervised the funeral.

Unmuffled motor boats face fines in Nahant District Court
Capt James T Grady filed a complaint against two owners in Nahant District Court on July 10. Horace F Perrigo of Malden and Charles VY Block of Revere were fined £10 each for not muffling their boats. A Quincy District Court action was dismissed for lack of evidence. The Palm, turned over to police by the Motor Boat Muffling Association, begins an active crackdown this week.

Old Steamer Connaught Burned as Planned Hundreds Watch
The old side wheel steamer Connecticut, once the Stonington line’s palatial vessel, will be destroyed within a week.
