Safe and Sane Fourth Observed in Winthrop
The Winthrop Fourth of July Association staged a full day of events with a midnight bonfire, bell ringing, flag raising in Columbia Square, and free theatre entertainment for children. A large parade, athletic contests, and a band concert followed at Ingleside Park with about 5 000 attendees, then Lewis Lake hosted an illuminated concert and fireworks. The day featured a children’s pageant, prize parade, multiple races, and a large volunteer auto convoy for rides.

A quiet Tuesday ceremony united Miss Ethel Rogers-Howe and Mr. Clarence O Duston at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A Howe, 4 Paine Street. Rev. W. W. Peck officiated, only family present, followed by a simple reception and collation. The couple planned a two week wedding trip and will reside in Winthrop after returning.

Ladies Whist Club Outing to Bass Point
The Ladies Whist Club of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club held their final meeting of the season on Wednesday and took a special car from Orient Heights to Bass Point. Thirty six members attended and dinner was served at Bass Point House. A serving tray was presented to president Mrs William Donovan, who could not attend.
