Winter of 1911 12 Warmth Fades In Winthrop Ice Scenic

The winter's lingering cold brought novel sights to Winthrop including ice covered marshlands from Breed's Island to Winthrop harbor and views of Revere beach. Residents enjoyed ice formed landscapes, while skating on Lewis Lake gave way to eel catching with poles and steel spears. Ducks near East Boston harbor showed food scarcity influence, and questions arose about mosquitoes returning. Church attendance and street activity remained high as spring seemed near.

New Town Vaults Near Completion For Winthrop Offices

The state record commissioner requires vaults to preserve Winthrop town papers. The first floor houses the treasurer and auditor while the second floor serves the town clerk and assessors. The town hall has undergone extensive changes with rooms extended and reconfigured, leaving some offices with reduced space and a notable vault act referenced in a calendar illustration.

Winthrop Police Relief Association Ball Held

The second annual ball of the Winthrop Police Relief Association drew about 600 attendees to Knights of Columbus hall on Tuesday night. Dancing ran from 9 p m to 2 a m with a brief intermission, coordinated by Chief Ellsworth Borrill as floor marshal and Sgt James H Douglas as assistant.

The marriage of Miss Dorothy Webb to Mr B Reed occurred quietly at the bride’s Washington Chambers home on Monday morning. Friends learned of the plan when a Tau Beta Sigma club member spread word. some went to the South Station to bid them bon voyage.

Third Annual Point Shirley Yacht Club Ball a Success

Despite a heavy rainstorm the Point Shirley yacht club held its third annual ball at the New Winthrop hotel. A six piece orchestra provided music and a special car ferried guests home after festivities. The reception committee led by Thomas Davidson saw the party off at Back Bay station amid rice confetti and pinks.
