Marlboro Civil War Veteran Lauriman H. Russell Dies
Lauriman H. Russell longtime Marlboro resident and last survivor of the Marlboro company died at 49 Cottage avenue after a weeklong illness. Born in Marlboro he enlisted July 16 1861 in Co I 13th Massachusetts. He helped seize the John Brown bell at Harpers Ferry and served in four battles without injury. Funeral services were held at his home and he was buried in Marlboro cemetery with W C Skaggs in charge.

Funeral services for Thomas S Floyd
Funeral services were held for Thomas S Floyd who died Saturday after a four day illness of pneumonia at his home 171 Hevere street. Rev James Allen assisted by Rev Blackett officiated. Johnson quartet sang several hymns. Interment was at Winthrop cemetery. Survived by a father and sister both well known in town. He was 41 years old.

Jenkins Shiverick Wedding Ties Winthrop to Dorchester

In a separate ceremony, Fred Davis O’Neil and Edna Beatrice Connor wed on Wednesday February 15 at 459 Shirley Street. The couple will reside in Winthrop.

Success at Winthrop council dance in new K of C hall
Winthrop council hosted a dancing party Thursday night in the new Knights of Columbus hall attended by about fifty couples. Dancing ran from eight to twelve with quadrilles as highlights and roughly 40 couples taking part each round. floor director Thomas Butler oversaw the event with Henry Hamilton aiding. Julian Stiles led a team including Edward J. Grainer, John J. Call, William Wells, George Parsons, Joseph Naulty, Henry McCarthy, Eugene Cronin and Francis Conlon.
