Town Meeting Endorses Candidates Amid Split Ballots
About 125 attended the Citizens' Committee meeting in War Veterans hall to endorse town officers for March 3. Elmer E. Dawson was elected chair man and Deane Freeman secretary. six members were named to handle ballots. Of 123 ballots, only three candidates met a majority: Wesley Tyler water commissioner Thomas Berridge auditor and C Porter Tewksbury free warden. Other offices remained undecided. Separately Judge Raymond in Boston set aside a Superior Court verdict awarding Henry C. Fisher $1100 against Winthrop for a fall on a slippery sidewalk.

Fire injures three in Tewksbury Street blaze
Early Friday a three flat at 25 Tewksbury Street suffered a fire caused by a defective flue. John Walsh his wife and sister Hannah were carried to safety by firefighters after neighbor Mr. Howard Wheeler alerted residents. The Mellville family and building owner also escaped as flames gutted kitchens baths and dining rooms with total losses around 6000 dollars.

Granville Avery Appointed SPCA Special Agent
Mr. Granville O Avery of 28 Irwin street has been appointed special agent for Winthrop and vicinity by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Rev F M White, the former agent, moves away on March 1 and Mr Avery takes his place. Avery is well known in Winthrop and will oversee cruelty complaints.

Patriotic Entertainment Honoring Lincoln Marks Veterans Night
A patriotic program for Lincolns birthday was presented to Civil and Spanish War veterans in War Veterans hall on Wednesday night. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Spanish War Veterans Association organized the event with Lincoln readings by Civil War veterans, songs, recitations, and dancing finale. Entertainers included Mrs John McCarthy Miss Edna McCarthy Mrs Thomas J Donovan George J Jenkins and Mrs LeCour. Committee heads were Mrs George N Haywood Mrs John McCarthy and Mrs Thomas Knudson.

Members from Greater Boston chapters and Winthrop clubs gathered at Cliff House to celebrate Lincoln birthday with programs on Historic and Veteran Trees. Mrs Nora Barbour welcomed guests as the Deane Winthrop Chapter, 28 members, showcased music, readings, and a lecture by Mrs Henrietta Frost. Special meetings and Brookline chapter events were announced.

Winthrop Woman's Club Notes February Meeting
The Winthrop Woman's Club met Friday afternoon February 7 at the Episcopal parish house with the General Topics committee presenting Germany as a leader in economic progress by Mr. Thomas F. Anderson. Mrs. Goldsmith sang German songs in costume. Light refreshments followed in the lower hall. Delegates Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Frank Morrison attended the State Federation mid winter session at Arlington Street Church. The next meeting is February 21 at 2 30 p m with an opera talk by Mr. W L Hubbard and Mr. Frank Waller at the piano. Members may bring guests.
