Winthrop High football team feted at city dinner
Signal honor was tendered to Winthrop High School football squad at a Citizens of Winthrop dinner. The team went seven games, six wins and one tie, undefeated. Coaches, guests, and players praised teamwork and sportsmanship, with speeches by Captain John Webster and Harvard’s Captain Charles Brickley, plus tales from Snow and Robinson.

Pretty holiday dance hosted at 118 Quine Avenue
Mrs. Carl G Brightman hosted a Saturday evening dance for her pupils on December 19 at her home 118 Quine avenue. The house was festively decorated with evergreens and tinsels and attendees wore formal evening dress. Miss Louise Hennessy organized the program and refreshments were served. Mrs Brightman will open a new studio at 175 Massachusetts avenue with a formal dance January 4 at 8 o'clock.

No Ash Collection This Week

Horses idle, board to be paid. residents face extra work and inconvenience. Advisory committee objected. requested $900 but only $700 approved, causing a shortage.
Verdict Against Winthrop Man For Lumber Claim
A verdict of 10 564 08 was returned for the German Company of Pittsburg against George T Rendle of Pleasant Street a contractor in a suit for lumber furnished in 1912 for the Chelsea bridge in the Superior Court before Judge Bell. The defense claimed part of the lumber failed to meet standard that about 10000 feet were lost by lightermen and 25000 feet by the giving way of plaintiff s pier.

New Bridge Opens Between Winthrop and East Boston
The Winthrop East Boston bridge opened last week with part of the old span to be removed before completion. Selectman Winthrop Magee was first to drive over in a carriage on Thursday. the following day Selectman Joshua Remby was first to pass by automobile.

At 1:30 PM on Thursday the Yuletide Charity Club hosted its annual Christmas tree at St John s Episcopal parish house. Mrs Willena Brown Reed entertained the children with stories and music followed by refreshments. All clergy were invited and each child received a gift.

Officers for this year are William Medholdt president William Law vice president Russell Lowell secretary and treasurer. Manager Lynch has picked a fast basketball team for the floor this year.
