Costume Party at Cottage Park Yacht Club Draws 200
The annual costume party attracted about 200 attendees. Prizes were homemade to reward clever ideas over costly outfits with winners including Mrs. Louis A. Radell and Mr. William J. Killam. Judges were Commodore Bloomfield, Vice Commodore Nugent, and J. Mosser.

Remarkable Winthrop Checker Pioneer Gilbert D. Bugbee Dies
Gilbert D. Bugbee died at home on Friday November 28. Funeral services were held November 30 at his 24 Underhill Street residence, with Rev. Clinton H. Hay of Boston officiating. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. A Boston jeweler by trade, Bugbee was a longtime Winthrop summer resident and a charter member of the Checker Club famed for 24 games played simultaneously with 23 wins and one draw. Survived by daughters Mrs. Howard Gould of Winthrop and Mrs. Charles F. Davis of Seattle, he was revered in town for his checker writings and live presence in the sport.

Beatrice A Lavoie of Winthrop married Richard E Lindstrom of Roxbury on Thanksgiving Day at the Church of St John the Evangelist with Rev John Griffin officiating. The couple, long-time friends, now begin life together in Roxbury after a reception at the bride's family home in Winthrop.

The Sigma Tau Club held a private informal dance Wednesday December 3 from 8 to 12 at the Bungalow on Unity avenue Beachmont. About 20 couples attended from Winthrop Melrose Newton Dorchester Mattapan and Nahan with refreshments and punch served during a termission.

Civic League maps curfew effort in Winthrop meeting
The Winthrop Woman's Civic League met in Frost Library. Miss Mary Wiggin spoke on The Working Girl. A curfew law inquiry committee reported no current curfew law and planned petitions and a town meeting debate on December 15 with Judge Brown as a speaker. The next meeting is January 5, 1914 with Mrs. Anna Tillinghast of Beverly as speaker.

Popular Authors Club Meets in Winthrop
The P. A. L. CLUB of Winthrop met with Mrs. Martha Gleason on Tuesday December 1. After business the music committee led by Mrs Ella Russell conducted an afternoon program featuring Miss Anderson from the Leland Powers School of Expression on the speaking voice and piano solos by Miss Clara Russell. An illustrated musical contest awarded Miss Helen Frasier the prize. Roll call echoed quotations on the voice and refreshments were served.
