Ten dered farewell for Harbor View Avenue residents Mr and Mrs Charles A Brand who depart Winthrop for Roseburg Oregon where Brand will grow fruit. The event featured vocal solos by Miss Marion Croley, with speeches by local figures and a forecast of Winthrop’s future. The couple, active in Union Congregational Church, were greeted by about eighty friends.
In Winthrop several women report glimpsing a tall dark man described as a Peeping Tom. A Boston paper claimed young men dressed in women's clothes to trap the intruder, but that report is unfounded.
On November 27 a recital was given by piano pupils of Miss L A Bugbee of 24 Underhill Street. Despite short study trunks many earned credit. An original story by Miss Bugbee followed the program weaving into a musical game. Luncheon finished the event with yellow and white decor.
Captain Thomas E. Evans who commanded the U S battleship North Dakota on a trial trip was presented a gold watch with chain and anchor charm by six quartermasters who served under him. The presentation occurred at his home on 230 Revere Street during Thanksgiving dinner as James Nash of Quincy delivered the token and spoke of admiration.
Benjamin Piscopo of Mainstreet was ordered by a Brockton jury to pay Walter R. Humes 3500 for injuries suffered when Humes, a street railway conductor, was struck by Piscopo's automobile on April 27, 1908. Humes claimed the car hit him as he attempted to reach a signal box, while Piscopo's defense argued Humes stepped into the car's path.
The Old Colony Street Railway Company and the Boston and Northern Street Railway Company ask railroad commissioners for authority to issue $300,000 bonds. Proceeds would retire floating indebtedness of $251,647 and $266,611 respectively.
