Yacht Hilda Wrecked Off Essex River Bar

Gloucester reports the 15 ton auxiliary sloop Hilda of the Winthrop yacht club was driven ashore by a northeast gale last Saturday and broken up on the Essex river bar. Captain Edward Clark and three crewmen survived by wading ashore as Dolliver's Neck life saving station kept watch all night. The vessel left Cape Porpoise for Boston Friday but seas overwhelmed it, sails blown away near Ipswich bay, engine underpowered against the storm.

Annual midsummer lawn party at St John the Evangelist

Winthrop K of C hosted a lawn party and midsummer reunion at St John the Evangelist church with Japanese lanterns and electric lights. Proceeds will fund the new church. Afternoon sports drew crowds led by Rev George Gorman and assistants. Numerous volunteers ran booths representing town sections and organized table groups.

New Fire Aid Service in Boston Metropolitan District

The fire aid system for large fires in Boston and nearby towns is complete. It covers Winthrop Revere Chelsea Everett Somerville Malden Cambridge Watertown Newton Dedham Hyde Park Milton and Quincy with a central station running card showing box locations and responding apparatus for nine districts numbered 3221 to 3229 for notifying outlying departments.
