The Deane Winthrop House in Winthrop is hosting a County Fair to raise funds for the mortgage. Exhibits of colonial furniture and documents fill the old house while entertainments include a gypsy camp, Indian Village, African Dodger, and a Coast Artillery Band concert. The event runs Thursday through Saturday with plans to display a plan of the Winthrop farm and tax bills from surrounding towns.
A Tuesday night disturbance at Ocean Spray end of the Boulevard Hotel drew Winthrop police after a Monday bowling alley melee on Shirley street. Hoodlums gathered, a window shattered, a bowler injured, and extra officers were deployed to quell further clashes.
