Diversity Club Opens Year With Coffee Meeting

The Diversity Club started its new year with a Saturday morning coffee on September 23 at Mrs. C R Kendrick's home. Welcome remarks were given by President Mrs. J E Smith who praised the club as a fine women's organization and noted its 100 percent Club Woman Magazine subscription. A yearbook summary was presented and a tour to Austin planned for October 21 to visit the Federated Women's Club Building and other sites.

Policy Meeting Set By Runnels County Farm Bureau

The Runnels County Farm Bureau schedules its annual policy development meeting at the Farm Bureau office on Hutchings Avenue in Ballinger. It starts at 8 p m on October 5, with policies to be drafted for voting at the county convention and submission to the state convention. The meeting is open to all interested in agriculture.

Lt Harvey Little Returns to U S After Mediterranean Duty

Lt. Harvey E. Little USNR son of Mr and Mrs W E Little Winters returned to Norfolk VA Sept 20 aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS America after an eight and a half month deployment with the U S Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. The America steamed nearly 55000 miles serving with NATO units and aided USS Liberty after a June 8 attack. The carrier earned the 1966 Battle Efficiency Award for Atlantic Fleet attack carriers. Ports visited included Greece Italy Spain Malta and Turkey.

Ensign Hale Graduates Naval Nurses Course at Newport

Navy nurse Ensign Dickie L. Hale, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Z. I. Hale of Winters, completed a military and naval familiarization course for newly commissioned nurses at the Naval Schools Command in Newport Rhode Island. The program covered naval customs, traditions, medicine procedures, and officer duties.

Abbott couple honored on 50th wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs H O Abbott celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with a reception at the First Methodist Church parlor. About 300 guests registered in a gold anniversary book featuring a 1917 wedding photo. Their seven children hosted with many relatives and ministers among the attendees.
