Plan for Navidad River dam to serve Jackson County water needs
Joe Carter reported no written pro tests were received as area planning engineer Harry Burleigh outlined a two part project. A dam across Navidad River would create a 192000 acre foot reservoir at a 44 foot conservation level. Phase one could meet Jackson County water needs for about 19 years if approved by the Commission the Federal House and Senate and local voters. Phase two could be pursued later with potential savings. Commissioner Otho Dent urged caution noting state water rights in the second watershed should not be surrendered for 15 to 20 years.
