A House debate on a Peace Corps bill outlines it duplicating Point IV functions, competing with seven federal agencies. Congressman Fisher criticizes the program as costly, arguing 4,700 trained Americans already serve overseas and 33,000 American missionaries spread funds abroad, amid a rising deficit.
The Young Women Auxiliary of Southside Baptist Church presented a missionary program for the YWA of Content Church in the church hall. Darlene McWright opened, Noleta James led singing, and Dorothy Green Napier’s “Climbing Jacob's Ladder” was introduced. Seven links on “Praying Grounds” were shared by McWright and group members, with Mrs. Bentley in charge of devotionals and farewell gifts to Mrs. Shores and Elizabeth Grenwelge.

Funeral services for Mrs. J B Carlton 89 longtime Runnels County resident were held Monday at 10 in Spill Memorial Chapel. The Rev B T Shoemake and Rev Virgil James officiated with burial in Pumphrey Cemetery. She died Saturday in Sunny Dale Nursing Home Abilene after a hip fracture in 1958. Survivors include five sons Ben Winters Walter Claude Eugene Hunter Willie one stepson Leslie Carlton Sr two daughters and many grandchildren. Pallbearers were Glenn Williams Bob Williams Charley Awalt Virgil Awalt Otis Sandlin and Bill Sharps.
Judy Wearden bride elect of Albert Mansell was honored at a gift tea in the Monroe Boles home. Co hosts included Mesdames Pete Eoff Junior Bailey Wayne Seals John Graham Jessie Bailey Carson Easterly and W H Burleson. Hosts welcomed Mrs Charles Wearden and Mrs Albert Mansell Sr. and gifts were displayed.
Mrs Roy Cooper of Waco as Missions Director for the Woman's Missionary Union of Texas will present an inspirational message at the Leadership Conference for the Runnels and Coleman Association on September 2 at 9 30 a m at the First Baptist Church. Mrs E K Dixon of Brownwood District 16 president will give the Bible Meditation and Mrs Lester Lee of Norton will present the prayer calendar. Mrs George Poe president of the Runnels Association will preside. Theme is Patterns for Progress with conferences on various work aspects. Presidents to be led by Mrs M L Young of Glen Cove and Mrs Poe.
