Winters Chamber of Commerce members met for the monthly luncheon at Huffman House to discuss the upcoming Christmas program and a sidewalk sale set for Friday November 15. secretary Emma Marks reported strong drive response and a unanimous plan approval as two new members joined, Joe Roberts Welding Service and Clara Bell's Beauty Shop.
Airman Donald J Prine, son of Mr and Mrs Jim Prine of Winters, completed basic training at Lackland AFB San Antonio and graduated from a specialized schooling. The announcement notes his status as an Airman and mentions Winters High School.
The Winters Chamber of Commerce board shifts its meeting to Monday November 4 due to Election Day. President R C Thomas urges all directors to attend to discuss electing new members and planning the Christmas program and the livestock show slated for early next year.

A joint Pentagon Post Office venture launches the 1968 Santa Claus Special. The fast U S Cargo ship will depart Oakland in November, stopping at Da Nang Qui Nhon Cam Rahn Bay and Saigon. Mail gifts October 14 to November 9 and mark Santa Claus Special beneath stamps.
Winters United Methodist Church women plan a 9 30 a m October 29 prayer and self denial observance in the church parlor. The Call to Prayer and Self Denial began in 1887 and centers on mission study and offerings for worldwide projects. More than 1 541 500 women in 33 000 societies nationwide participate in 1968 themes inspired by Christ the Giver of Life and the study Coming to Life by Dr Ernest W Saunders Garrett Theological Seminary dean and NT interpretation professor.
Mrs. Howard Thompson of Brownwood visited with Mr. and Mrs. E C Collinsworth. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith of Abilene joined the group. Sunday guests included Mrs Nova McGregory and Mrs Mamie Craig of Coleman, Mr and Mrs Jack Nixon of Ballinger, and Mr and Mrs J T Sneed.
Winters FFA members competed at the State Fair Livestock Show in Dallas last week with several placings. Dennis McBeth's Corriedale lambs finished 5th and 10th, Huden White placed 6th. Michael O'Dell 23rd in Suffolk cross. Randall Sneed 10th and 18th in Suffolk cross and 10th and 18th in Suffolk purebred. Ricky Marks 52nd with Hampshire lamb. Hudon White 5th in Southdown cross. David Carroll's Berkshire barrow was 2nd. Hudon White's junior yearling Hereford heifer finished 4th.
Winters High School students will attend the College Night in Abilene at Cooper High School on October 29 at 7 15 p m. The event offers college information on financial aid scholarships loans and work study. Colonel Johnny M Rice of Hardin-Simmons University will discuss ROTC and military obligations with college representatives from across the state present to assist planning students.
Favorable weather aides farmers in Runnels County as gins run around the clock. Winters Gin adds a crew and shifts to 24 hour operation, bolstering output. By Tuesday, 1864 bales had been received from area gins.

The Winters Blizzards lost a close conference game to the Haskell Indians 22-21. James Greer opened scoring with a 14 yard run, Arion Baes and David Harrison added points, and a fourth quarter failed two point attempt left Haskell ahead 22-21 as the Blizzards fought back with 12 first downs to Haskell’s 8.
More than 100 ex-students plan Winters High School Homecoming on October 25 to honor Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ritch of Nevada City California. The event includes a pregame supper and a queen coronation with Mrs. Riley Marks and Mrs. La Dell Davis directing.
Winters High School hosts Merkel in a homecoming clash as the Blizzards, 2-4 overall and 1-2 in District 7-AA, face the 3-3 Merkel. Merkel, moved to AA this year, also sits 1-2 in league play. Both squads have common opponents this season.
Wesley M. Hays owner of Western Auto Associate Store in Winters received a walnut and bronze wall plaque recognizing twenty years of service to the community. The award was engraved with his name and forwarded from Western Auto Supply Company general offices in Kansas City Missouri and presented through the firm’s division of the store here.
Airman Jimmy L Fine, son of Mr and Mrs Fine, has completed basic training at Lackland Air Base, San Antonio Texas. He is assigned to the United States Air Force after graduation and begins his next assignment.
Robert Guevara returns to Winters High School after a near two year absence due to a 22 caliber rifle injury during a hunting outing on Nov. 19, 1966. He attended half days while using a cane and continues therapy after a three month Gonzales hospital stay. Students raised over 1000 dollars to cover medical bills under the Student Council.
