Late Hay Cutting Most Important During This Year
Extension agronomist Dr. Neal Pratt of Texas A&M University warns hay yields and pasture grazing have suffered from dry weather across Texas. One more hay cutting this fall can help farmers bolster forage for winter. He stresses fertilizing for quality, especially nitrogen, and urges soil testing before next year’s production. A forage test can gauge hay value, with age analyses available from the Forage Testing Laboratory at Texas A&M and other state labs.
