District Director Ellis Campbell Jr. said the IRS may request more information refer the case to an appraiser or hire an independent appraiser. The Legislature approved a broad pay raise for about 240,000 state and education employees to be phased in from November 14. A local civil service commissioner may hold simultaneous posts as assistant postmaster or tax board member, per Attorney General Crawford C. Martin. Martin also says taxable property valuation in education code equals assessed valuation, and only the prior year’s county assessment may set criteria for county junior college districts. The state comptroller may refund protested taxes within the assessment period, and Senatorial district conventions next May must be held in districts drawn by the Legislative Redistricting Board. Secretary of State Bullock, as chief election officer, issued the ruling.
