Former Winters resident Oscar C Williams dies in Abilene

Oscar C Williams 71, of Abilene and former Winters resident, died Wednesday night at St Ann Hospital after a heart attack at his home. Funeral held Friday at Elliott's Chapel of Memories with Dr Norman Conner officiating. Burial in Elmwood Memorial Park. He was longtime manager of the Banner Creamery ice coal and cold storage department in Winters before becoming general manager of the milk division.

Williams Family Moves Then Settles in Abilene

Obituary notes Mr Williams born September 16 1893 in Smiley attended Ballinger school and a Dallas business college. He married Vera Nicholson in Ranger in 1920. Survived by wife one son Pat Williams and granddaughter Amanda of 1157 High.

Mayor Harvey D. Jones of Winters Texas proclaims November 15 to 21 1964 as Retarded Children's Week urging citizen support. The city notes nationwide births of mentally retarded children and commends the Runnels County Association for Retarded Children for spreading information and assistance.

Mrs. R. W. Babston was honored on her birthday Thursday evening at her residence by a group of friends. Knapp Completes Special Naval Instruction in Memphis

Kirwan K. Knapp an airman apprentice USN son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth K Knapp formerly of Winters now Wichita Kansas recently graduated from Aviation Familiarization School at the Naval Air Technical Training Center Memphis Tennessee He studied naval aviation orientation and survival practices including history theory of flight carriers operations aircraft cleaning and inspection survival evasion parachutes and jump techniques.

County Judge Addresses RCARC on Rights and State Schools

County Judge W. H. Rampy told the Runnels County Association for Retarded Children at Winters City Hall on November 5 about state laws protecting the rights of the retarded, care at Abilene and Denton State Schools, and proper procedures to place a child. He noted trust funds or guardians through the probate court, foster home options, and that 17 students from Runnels County attend Abilene State School. a Winters bake sale November 25 supports the RCARC.

Sew and Sew Club Meets at Mrs Phillips Home

The Sew and Sew Club gathered at Mrs I N Phillips home on Wednesday November 4 with thirteen members and a visitor. A quilt was quilted pillows and scarves embroidered for the hostess. The next meeting is planned at Mrs O S Phillips home November 17 with a covered dish luncheon and secret pals revealed. November 15 to 26 is National Mental Retardation Week.

Sam Houston’s Texas book uses 113 photos to trace his steps

The University of Texas Press publishes Sam Houston's Texas a 213 page volume by Sue Flanagan Austin capital correspondent for the Lub bock Avalanche Journal and Wichita Falls Times and Record News. Flanagan traveled 7300 miles over three years to retrace Houston's steps.
