Winters Ends of the Abilene & Southern Line
The Abilene & Southern railway section from Winters to Ballinger has been removed, leaving Winters as the line end for the first time since 1909. Upgrades include heavier track from Winters to Abilene, new ballast and ties, and heavier yard track to support larger loads. The line now restricts cars to 220,000 pounds gross, with potential for bigger grain and feed shipments, though ballast is lighter than main lines.
