Broadening Regulations Put Pesticides Under USDA Oversight
New amendments to the Federal Insecticide Fungicide and Rodenticide Act expand USDA jurisdiction to include more chemicals and devices used to control pests. Manufacturers must register products, prove effectiveness, and ensure labeling covers competition, usage directions, and precautions. Existing products have until October 1 to comply as more items join the regulatory scope. Some repellents aim to move pests rather than kill them to minimize harm.
