Six Winters High School students qualified at regional UIL contests in Lubbock for the State literary and track finals in Austin. Darlene Sneed, first in shorthand, will attend with teacher Frances Brede Meyer. Family Night Cancelled at Winters Country Club

Winters Country Club canceled family night for now saying dinner and golf will resume when weather cooperates. Directors announced the change this week and will revisit plans once conditions improve.

Pvt Billy Dees Completes Combat Engineer Course

Army Pvt Billy R Dees parents Mr and Mrs Ben Taylor Jr live in Norton Missouri. He completed a seven week combat engineer course at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri on April 28. Training covered road rail and bridge construction and repair along with demolitions and mine warfare. He entered the Army December 1965 and finished basic training at Fort Hood Texas. He is a 1965 Ballinger High School graduate.

Council Plans Cemetery Water Service For Lakeview Lots

Cecile Nitsch Wigginton of Midland former Winters girl returned from the Texas Association of Legal Secretaries State Convention in Fort Worth April 22 24. She was installed as vice president of the Midland Legal Secretaries Association at Bosses Night Banquet April 20 at Midland Country Club. She served as Historian last year and prepared the history book which won second place in state competition.

Clans of Texas Elects Rev Crawford to Museum Board

Winters woman to represent WSCS at Oregon assembly

Mrs. M. L. Dobbins of Winters, president of the Brownwood District WSCS, will be a delegate to the seventh WSCS and Wesleyan Service Guild assembly in Portland, Oregon, May 12 15 marking the 25th anniversary. About 8 000 women from 50 states and overseas will attend under the theme Called to Renewal and Service. Dobbins departs May 10 from Love Field Dallas with eight other district presidents. she has led Winters WSCS and served as district president the past two years.

Winters Residents Named To Office In District 22 VFW

Four Winters residents active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary were named to offices in District 22 at the Eden district convention. J A Henderson Jr and Ramon Hudson were named district trustees. Mrs Charles Dry was named banner bearer. Mrs Ramon Hudson was district flag bearer. Henderson presided over the district meeting and Mrs Henderson led the Auxiliary convention. John Paul Keelan installed officers and presented Henderson a past district commander pin. The convention was attended by additional Winters members including Mr and Mrs Ramon Hudson and others.

Waddell Wins All Expense Trip to California and Las Vegas

John Waddell, owner of Waddell Chevrolet Co. in Winters, is named a winner in the Strike It Rich in 66 campaign. He and Mrs. Waddell will depart Dallas May 6 on a chartered airliner for a three day trip to Los Angeles and Las Vegas with all expenses paid.

Drum Major and Twirlers Named At WHS Contest

Marsha Hays was named drum major of the Winters High School Blizzard Band for the coming year. Dora Snell was chosen feature twirler with Kay Orr rank corporal. The twirling line includes Theresa Meyer Gayla Beall and Jean Mostad with Brenda Burns as alternate. Jill Matthews named junior high feature twirler.

Revival To Begin Sunday At Winters First Methodist

The Rev. C A Marigham of Groesbeck will lead a spring revival at Winters First Methodist Church from Sunday May 8 through May 15. Pat Hamilton of Abilene directs the choir with evening services at 7 30 and a 6 45 morning service on weekdays. Coffee and doughnuts follow the morning services in the church basement. The pastor, Rev. Robert Walker, says the schedule allows businessmen to attend before work and invites the public to join.

Winters Savings and Loan to Hold Open House

The Winters branch of the First Savings and Loan Association opens this week and will host an open house May 9 to 14 with hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. the office at 102 South Main offers full services, gifts for visitors, and plans to hire a full-time Winters manager.
