Texas boat owners face March 31 deadline as all motor boats on public waters must be registered this year. Renewals use a staged two year permit with decals mailed in 2 to 2.5 weeks. Obtain 1972 renewal forms at district offices or Austin headquarters and send fees and applications there.
Blizzard Band travels to Ballinger for a concert and sightreading contest aiming for a Sweepstakes award. Extra practices were held and a weather bulletin warned of a strong Blizzard moving south with frontal winds reaching Ballinger High School by afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Ben Ligameri and son Mark of Ft Mill SC visit Mr and Mrs Raymond Knight in their home. The trip highlights a courteous social visit in the community setting with three family members observed during their stay.
Mrs Gene Dillard and son David visited Eden relatives in Clark. Officials remind boat owners registrations as of December 31 1971 expire March 31 and renewal fees have increased. Those who previously did not need registration must apply soon to avoid violation.
State Senator Jack Hightower of Vernon who is Grand Master of Masons in Texas will speak at Ballinger in the 105th Masonic District open meeting. A Dutch treat dinner starts at 6 p.m. at Lowake Inn, followed by a closed lodge meeting and an 8 p.m. public address at Ballinger High School auditorium inviting Master Masons and families.
Local boys showed animals in Houston livestock show and San Angelo event. Greg Donica won second in one breed swine class and placed 16th in Hampshire. Rickey Bently was fifth in Berkshire. Tobin Burns was 23rd in Duroc. Wayne Schwartz placed fifth with Angus steer. Winters FFA judging team included Jimmy Sims Keith Paschal Ronnie Moore Arnold Norman with Paschal fourth high overall.
Cisco Junior College Band the Wrangler Belles and CJC Stage Band visit Winters High on Friday March 24 at 10 55 am as part of their Spring Tour of Big Country high schools. Four Winters graduates are among band members.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologist John Smith launches a statewide inventory of bald eagles and ospreys in Texas. He sent 900 field personnel letters and 6000 to conservation groups seeking sightings and nest reports with precise locations and nesting descriptions to assess the birds' status.
Smith said nest sites will be subsequently visited to determine more specific information. The public can assist in this inventory by informing their local game management officer or department biologist of any sightings.
