Janice Colburn Tours with Howard Payne College Band

Janice Colburn of Winters is a junior at Howard Payne College and alto saxophonist with the HPC symphonic Band directed by Ed Cain. The four day ten concert Texas tour ran March 4 to 7 with performances in Kermit Monahans Odessa Crane McCamey Big Lake San Angelo and Brady including a Heart of Texas Band Festival guest appearance. A Phillips Lang concerto with Jim Woodle as piano soloist highlighted the program. Francis Burke assisted as brass conductor on one selection.

Norton Girls 4 H Club Exhibits At PTA Meeting

Norton Girls 4 H Club displayed items at the PTA meeting on March 2 in the school cafeteria. The exhibit included pillow cases with fancy stitching, pincushions, buck weaving, Swedish embroidery and foods. Carolyn Gottschalk wore her District Dress Revue dress while Gloria Hope demonstrated proper table setting. Frances and Patti Greger shared district camp and electric clinic literature. Mr Sawyer, Norton School superintendent, awarded four pins for outstanding clothing, home improvement and electric work.

Texas cut traffic deaths eight percent in 1958

Governor Price Daniel received NSC praise for an eight percent drop in Texas highway fatalities in 1958. Preliminary figures show 2,336 deaths, down from 2,539 in 1957, a reduction state officials say ranks among the best nationwide.

Brownie Troop 1 Meets for Weekly Scout Huddle

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1 met at the scout hut with Mrs. R. G. Cooper and Mrs. J. C. Wilkerson guiding the session. The group painted cans and planned to plant flower seeds next week while nibbles were served to listed Scouts and leaders, and an appreciation gift was delivered to Mrs. J. M. Wallen.

Texas Signals Drive Law Overhaul Plan
