Babson Describes Economy Resting Period Ends With Healthier Outlook

He cites inflation psychology and speculative enthusiasm boosting buying, while bond prices rose on easy bank credit, with tax-exempt bonds showing an exception.
Resting Period Helps Economy Return to Health
The analysis notes industrial output recovered in March after a winter decline with a broad upturn signaling the end of the fourth postwar recession. Consumer spending lagged early in 1961 but saving rose as debts fell, while housing starts edged up and road construction surged in spring. Personal incomes fell early but rose to a new midyear peak as hours and wages increased.
