State Office Buildings Named After Texas Patriots

The State Building Commission renames the two Capitol area office buildings to honor Sam Houston and John H. Reagan to reduce public confusion. The plan sets a 30 cent general revenue tax in three counties, with a 42 cent rate providing funds for public schools, pensions, and building funds.

Licensing Study Scheduled by Texas Legislature

House Speaker James A. Turman named Rep. Will Smith of Beaumont to chair a new committee to study operations of Texas Examining and Licensing Boards. Members include Reps. Sam Collins Newton Ben Atwell Dallas Don Gladden Fort Worth and Travis Peeler Corpus Christi. The study aims to improve understanding between the boards and the Legislature as they review 23 boards and 18 other professions and trades.

Texas Textbooks Publicized For 1963 64 Adoption List

State Commissioner J W Edgar sent a list of 203 textbooks to county and independent district superintendents urging public release so citizens can know what is under consideration. The 1963 64 list will be winnowed to 82 by October and then sent to the State Board of Education. Public hearings on objections run September 1 to 4.
