Third Session Fizzled as Governor Calls Fourth

The Texas 56th Legislature ended its third session with main funding bills undone. Gov. Price Daniel called a fourth session. Young Texans Face Three Day Waiting Rule For Marriage

Gov Daniel is expected to sign a bill requiring all boys under 21 and girls under 18 to wait three days after obtaining a license to marry. Funeral Rites For Ben Balke In Galveston

Funeral services for Ben B. Balke 77 of Galveston were held Thursday at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Ben E. Bering officiating and burial in Sealy Texas. Balke died Tuesday at St Marys Infirmary after 37 years with the Santa Fe Railway water service in the Gulf Division. He was born June 23 1882 in Peters Texas and had lived in Galveston 22 years. Survivors include his wife Louise and three daughters.

Long assigned to 24th Infantry in Germany

Pvt. Roger D. Long, 18, son of Mr and Mrs Granville C Long of Winters, has been assigned to the 24th Infantry Division in Germany. He entered the Army in October 1958, trained at Fort Carson, and last served at Fort Chaffee before arriving in Europe in March.

Winters High Alumnus Phil Roland Earns Mira Costa Honors

Phil Roland, former Winters High School student, graduated from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach California. Among 490 graduates he ranked 19th in scholastic GPA and received one of two school scholarships for outstanding service. He also won an achievement award in Bank of America vocational arts contest. His busy activity extended beyond academics.

Student Phil earns top award in printing division

Phil, top in the Industrial Arts Department, received a merit award in printing. He plans to major in Printing Engineering and Newspaper Management at Los Angeles State College. He works at Roberts Engraving Co. in Culver City, California, and is the son of the late Vernon Roland, a former Winters Enterprise employee.
