History Plaque Dedication for First Methodist Church
The Texas Historical Marker for the First Methodist Church of Winters will be dedicated Sunday, July 20, as part of a Homecoming celebration. Rankin Pace of Winters, chairman of the Runnels County Historical Survey Committee, announced the marker sits at Church and Parsonage Streets and is a 27 by 42 inch aluminum Swedish steel effect piece sponsored by the First United Methodist historical and records committee. This is the 16th official Historical Marker in Runnels County.

Former Winters Resident Slain in Florida Robbery
Wendell Davis Carwile 43, a former Winters resident, was shot seven times during a holdup in Hialeah Florida early July 4. The taxi driver died as investigators suspect a robbery with possible revenge motive linked to a prior April incident. Final rites were held in Hialeah with full military honors. memorial services in Hobbs followed by burial in Hialeah. Survivors include his widow Alzira, two sons, his parents, siblings, an aunt, and a cousin.
