Inside the Texas Capitol Building A Rich Texan Heritage
Fifteen thousand carloads of Texas red granite arrived for exterior walls from Burnet County by ox power and rail. The Capitol features seven miles of wainscoting in multiple woods, and a copper roof covering 85 000 square feet. The Grecian cross design houses terrazzo floors and a grand dome painted interior every seven years, with ongoing maintenance by many tradespeople. The Archives and Library Building and Capitol Tourist Bureau attract visitors, contributing to a record 12 600 000 out-of-state travelers in the state last year.
