McMurry College football coach Buddy Fornes will speak at Winters High School annual football banquet held in the school cafeteria on Thursday January 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available from cheerleaders or the high school office. Coach Fornes is a Winters High School graduate.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley M. Hays of Oftersheim Germany announce the birth of a daughter in Heidelbergs Germany Hospital on Friday December 29. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs T B Robertson of Sweetwater. Paternal grandparents listed in the announcement.
Lt. James W. Little of Winters California serving with the U S Army in Vietnam expresses gratitude for gifts and cards from Winters residents. He thanks those alive and those who have died and notes the tribute to the men he serves with in the 1st Infantry Division APO 96345 San Francisco California.
Winters Independent Schools Superintendent Carroll Tatom will join about 2500 Texas school administrators in Austin January 3 to 5 for the annual School Administrators Advisory Conference on Education. Topics include teacher preparation for change and federal program procedures.
John W. Holland of the U S Immigration and Naturalization Service announces a January reporting period for all aliens to submit their addresses. Forms are available at post offices and INS offices during January. Willful noncompliance may lead to serious consequences.

The Winters Independent School District begins its annual census of all scholastics aged 6 to 18 on Sept 1, 1968, including those not currently enrolled and married individuals in the district. Census slips go home this week with students. slips must be returned by Friday.
All drivers issued after January 1 must have a color photo on their license. In person renewals will be required at DPS offices with on site photo capture. About 250 full time offices will handle renewals as existing licenses are updated to birthdate based expirations.
Postmaster Rankin Pace announced January 7 changes in all mail classes except parcel post and international mail. First class rates rise to six cents per letter and ten cents per ounce for air mail up to seven ounces, with heavier pieces merged into a single rate. Special handling will be available on third class parcels weighing eight to sixteen ounces, and rates for second class, bulk third class, and educational fourth class mail increase as well.
Winners in three divisions at the Winters Wingate Junior Livestock Show will receive cash bonuses replacing the animal sale. About $1,000 in prizes and trophies are planned for 250 head of calves lambs and hogs. The event on Saturday starts at 9 am in the Winters school complex with showmanship awards and a barbecue lunch by FFA mothers.

The Texas Highway Commission approves a 362 million two year Consolidated Highway Program for 1,667.6 miles of non Interstate routes. It includes reconstruction of US 83 in Runnels County and 557 miles of right of way cost shared 50 50 with local governments, aimed at safer modern highways and orderly state planning.
Mansell Brothers, Winters John Deere dealers, will join 3,000 Deere outlets in a winter safety drive promoting Roll-Gard tractors frames.
