St John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Circle held a regular meeting with vice president presiding. Bible study focused on Psalm 46 and a hymn was sung. Members reported on activities and prepared to pack used clothing for overseas shipment on February 16. Thirty-one members attended.

Members of the Be Busy Sewing Club gathered Monday afternoon at Mrs. Louella Wilson’s home. Hand work was done for the hostess and refreshments served to Mesdames Millorn Blackmon Smith Babston Poe Lloyd Martin and Roper. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Babston’s home on Monday February 12.

Former Winters Residents Vacation in Guatemala with Friends
Mr. and Mrs. Truett Nance formerly of Winters spent a two week vacation in Guatemala visiting friends in San Rafael California. Mrs. Nance details ruins Indian villages volcanoes and Lake Atitlan with visits to Chichi and Santiago and a stay in the Mayan Inn. The trip included tours, a large Guatemalan party, and a flight to Mexico City on the return.

Landowners Sign For Conservation Plans In LCS District
Jake Presley notes six month progress for Runnels Soil and Water Conservation District work slowed by wet weather. Woodrow Hoffman reports 18 landowners signed plans covering 9 200 acres while 19 completed plans on 9 000 acres and 19 revised on 11 800 acres. District cooperators signed 5 000 acres under the Great Plains Conservation Program. funds are exhausted and no new money until July or later.

Former Drasco resident James A. Yates Jr. dies in Baytown
James A. Yates Jr. 54 of Route 1 Crosby died in a Baytown hospital at 12 03 am Thursday after living in Crosby 31 years He was a laboratory technician at General Foods Co in Houston He attended Drasco school San Antonio Academy and TMI He is survived by his wife four Crosby sons two Baytown brothers and his parents in Baytown Funeral services were held Friday in Crosby.
