Army 2nd Lt. William A. Roberts, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orion Roberts of Ballinger Texas, completed the 17 week field artillery officer basic course January 21 at The Artillery and Missile School Fort Sill Oklahoma. The program trains newly commissioned officers in forward observer duties and related responsibilities. Roberts graduated Ballinger High School in 1953 and Trinity University in 1938. Prior to enlistment he worked for American Climax Petroleum Co. in Goldsboro.
The State Theatre opens Friday and Saturday with The Saga of Hemp Brown a Color CinemaScope adventure starring Rory Calhoun Beverly Garland and John Larch. Also showing Harry Black and the Tiger a Western set in India with Stewart Granger Barbara Rush and Anthony Steel. Thunder Road a moonshining melodrama with Robert Mitchum opens Sunday and Monday.
The feature stars Trevor Bardette Keely Smith Sandra Knight and Jim Mitchum in debut roles for the latter three. Supporting players include Betsy Holt Francis Koon Randy Sparks and Mitch Ryan. Thunder Road is a DRM production by Robert Mitchum's independent company with a screenplay by James Atlee Phillips and Walter Wise from Mitchum's original story.

Lawrence Smith travels to Denton to begin his second semester at the State College. He is spending a mid semester holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Beavers.
Mr and Mrs Richard Sauer of Lubbock welcome a baby boy Lester Boyd born January 19. Mrs Sauer formerly Rosalie Gerhart. Mrs Walter Gerhart visited last week at the Sauer home in Lubbock.
