The Texas Legislature is fully organized with both houses established and more than 400 bills introduced and referred to committees. A Tuesday hearing on legalizing horse-race betting in counties with voter approval begins the process as sessions schedule mornings afternoons and evenings to hear sponsors and objectors. Rep Tom Holmes of Granbury along with Alonzo Jamison Den ton Delwin Jones of Lubbock and Bill Rapp of Raymondville author a bill to license cattle feed lots and regulate their operation. The act seeks to protect public health by enforcing standards in beef cattle feed lot maintenance. It was recommended by the Southwest Cattle Raisers Association cattle feed lot division.
Governor Connally reappoints John L. Hill of Houston as Secretary of State Charles H. King Jr. of Longview as Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Maj Gen Thomas S Bishop of Houston as Adjutant General for the Army and Brig Gen James M Rose of Denton as Assistant Adjutant General for the Air all in Texas appointments.
Atty Gen Crawford Martin holds a constable may act as bail bond surety under state law though certain conditions could indicate official misconduct. Other rulings state that the Veterans Land Board lacks authority to permit a veteran purchaser to substitute entract of land for a prior board commitment.
Controversy over the last 54 acres for Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Gillespie County heats up as attorney for owners delays condemnation. John Ben Shepperd offers 62500 dollars to move forward, with immediate possession sought by Parks and Wildlife while a jury determines fair value.
The Sweeneys lawyer signals a near settlement and the couple vows to make every reasonable effort to vacate the premises. Texas Highway Department's William S Newberry elected president of the Texas Public Employees Association, succeeding T B Wright. St and Mrs Charles Bolin of Mt Clemmons Michigan announce the birth of a son on Friday January 27 at the Base Hospital Selfridge AFB Michigan. Mrs Bolin is the former Sammie Lou Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Jones Winters. Mrs Jones flew in by plane to be with her daughter and baby for a few days. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Orvill Bolin of Nebraska.
Mr. and Mrs. William Little of Oklahoma City are parents of a son named David Edward born Sunday January 29. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Little of Winters and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gardner of Waco.
In the Little Home area photographers who recently visited included Mr. and Mrs. Mel Thurman Mr. and Mrs. John Kline both of Abilene and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lasater of Olney.
Mike Patterson, a Texas Tech student in Lubbock, visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Patterson this past weekend.
Thirty one Winters Elementary and Junior High pupils earned an average of 90 or above in all subjects for the first semester of the 1966 67 school year. Principal George M Beard announced the honor roll with names listed by grade.
Eddie Little, recently a patient at Winters Municipal Hospital, returned home Monday night and is convalescing well. Doctors say it will be at least another month before he can resume his usual activities.
Mrs. J. Ty Stell, former resident of Winters, with Mrs. Irene Hubbard of Stamford, conducted business in Winters on Tuesday and visited with local friends.
