State Bar seeks trained assistants amid case backlog
The State Bar Association notes difficulty finding qualified trial attorneys as assistants drop from 80 to 68. Carr cites 4,000 pending cases in the attorney general's office and the national attention on the slanted-hole well investigations. The main hurdle is attracting experienced lawyers willing to work for low pay. Beginning lawyers earn about $400 monthly while nine division heads receive $10,500 yearly. The Bar Association will aid in recruiting, forming a 19 member committee to work with the incoming attorney general.
