The Winters High School principal released the second six weeks honor roll. Students with no grade below B and at least one A are named, including top scorers with six or more A grades such as Donna Benson, Melba Lewis, Jo Nell Simmons, and many others across bands of four to five A grades with varying B counts.
M Sgt and Mrs Bob Mc Clelland and daughter Debbie of San Antonio visited the Millorn home for a 15 day leave. Sgt McClelland departed Tuesday to return to Viet Nam with family and relatives bid farewell.
The Blizzards beat the Robert Lee Steers 44 to 41 at home on Monday night. The winners struggled with 16 turnovers and 38 percent shooting but excelled at the free throw line with 70 percent accuracy led by Danny Killough seven for seven and 14 rebounds. Larry Cook and Killough each scored 17. In B team action the Blizzards won 44 to 39 behind Bob Colburn 15 and Bill Grantz 10.
Winters Breezes eighth grade and ninth grade teams fall to Coleman squads in Coleman's gym. The eighth graders lose 56 to 26 and the ninth graders 67 to 44, with Coleman’s experience and Winters mistakes shaping the results. Jimmy Sims and Brooks Parks lead Winters with 8 points each in the eighth grade game.
Winters 8th and 9th grade boys basketball squads fall to Coleman on Thursday night November 30. The 8th grade Breezes lose 62 to 23 as they struggle from the floor and line. The Coleman squad is described as more experienced.
Winters Blizzards were outshot and out rebounded in a 68 to 47 loss to 3A Sweetwater on Tuesday at Sweetwater. Danny Killough led Winters with 20 points and 8 rebounds while Johnny Cathey and Stan Wilson added 10 and 9 points respectively. The Winters High School Blizzard Band under director Jim Swofford will present its annual Christmas season concert in the school auditorium Monday evening December 18 beginning at 6 30. The program includes traditional Christmas music Mexican music and marches.
Mrs. Lee Harrison was among twenty West Texans chosen for the Educators Airlift to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. They attended a two day orientation session and returned home Saturday.
The Be Busy Sewing Club schedules a Christmas party for December 11 at 10 30 a m in the Floyd Sims Home. Members are asked to bring salad for lunch and a $2 gift.
