Texas split dove season aims to test winter harvest impact
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announces a split mourning dove season for 1972 73 with Northern Zone Sept 1 to Oct 14 and Jan 6 to 21 1973 and Southern Zone Sept 23 to Nov 5 1972 and Jan 6 to 21 1973. Open season variances in white winged dove counties apply until Nov 2. Biologists say the plan tests if a late season increases recreation without raising overall harvest and monitors potential effects on breeding populations in other states.
