Revival services at Hopewell Baptist Church ended Sunday night with Rev. George Ray of Grand Junction Colorado preaching. Three new members joined the church and numerous visitors from Fort Worth Pecos Ballinger Lubbock San Angelo Abilene and other areas were noted among attendees.

Funeral services for John L. Hicks 76 were held at Spill Memorial Chapel with Glenn Gray and Willis Jernigan officiating. Burial followed at Shep Cemetery. Hicks died July 23 in Veterans Hospital Big Spring after three years of ill health. He was born May 12, 1893 in Burnet and lived in Ozona and later South Taylor County. Survived by his wife Leona Saur Hicks, a son John L. Hicks Jr., a step son Ernest Schaffner, a step daughter Ruth Craig, siblings Theodore Hicks and Mrs. Bell Schilling, and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.
Olive E McFarland 82 retired teacher died 5 20 am Saturday at West Plains Memorial Hospital Muleshoe after a month illness Services were 3 pm Sunday at First Baptist Winters burial Winters She born July 20 1887 in Runnels County moved to Winters 1927 1941 organized the first library there Survived by three sons R P McFarland Ponchaoula LA Wilburn San Angelo R L McFarland Slough Buck England a daughter Bernis Camp Muleshoe two sisters H P Henry Houston Martha Linberg Vernon 13 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren.

Mrs. W. D. Lang of Crystal City is visiting at the home of her sister Mrs. H. J. Hodge Sr. Lang is a former resident of Winters.
Funeral services were held for Jim Randall Randy Pendergrass 18 of Pumphrey at First Baptist Winters. The Winters High School alumnus died after a Monday early morning wreck on FM 53 near Wingate when his car hit a pickup and trailer. The pickup driver James Harmes 45 of Coleman was injured but later listed in good condition. Survivors include his parents two brothers a sister and grandparents. Pallbearers named.
Cynthia Kay Pinkerton and Jimmy Brock Hatler have completed wedding plans with a date set for Saturday August 16 at the First Baptist Church. Mr and Mrs C R Pinkerton are the bride parents and Hatler’s parents are listed as Mrs Joe Rogers of Palestine Texas and Jack Hatter of Pittsburg Texas. Friends are invited to attend.
A Saturday afternoon gift tea at 300 Laurel Drive in Lufkin honored Miss Paula Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs R S Smith. She is the bride elect of Mr Larry Rives with the wedding set for August 30 at First Methodist Church. Thirty guests attended with Mrs W L Bean hosting assisted by a group including Mrs Morris Robinson and Mrs Neal Oakes.

Miss Marie Haney of Abilene spent Sunday visiting in Abilene with Mrs. George C. Hill and Dr. C. T. Rives, and also in the George R. Hill home.
