Department Releases Exotic Gray Francolins At Two South Texas Sites
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department released 250 gray francolins near Raymondville in Willacy and Kenedy Counties and 150 near Bruni in Webb County. The birds reared at the Game Bird Farm near Tyler aim to supplement native populations and establish a new game crop as land use changes reduce native bird habitats. Biologist Joe Davidson said the program is experimental and early results are encouraging with more releases planned in warm weather months.
