Larry Hensley on leave visits parents and prepares for a two to three year assignment at a Navy Base in Hawaii with his wife. Community Day planned at school on Friday April 8 as several schools compete in sports.
An advertisement promises relief from kidney discomfort with Bukets a 3 tabs daily treatment. It claims 48 cents and 12 hours to start relief and offers a money back guarantee at any drug counter. The copy urges purchase at Main Drug Company.
The coaches Mildred DeBerry Elaine Miller and Dianne Whitten burg express gratitude for the beautiful plaques received and thank those who assisted at games including the clock keepers and scorekeepers.
Olin Leroy Cranford 55 of Wingate died at North Runnels Hospital at 11 15 p m Monday after months of illness. Funeral 2 30 p m Wednesday at Spill Memorial Chapel. Burial Wingate Cemetery. Born March 1 1917 in Mason he moved to Runnels County 1930s and later lived in Odessa before returning to Wingate. He married Ola Dell Adcock in 1936 and was a Church of Christ member. Survivors: wife, parents Mr and Mrs Tom Crawford Winters one daughter Jo Ann Scott Wingate three grandchildren one sister Mrs Mary Ruth Merrill Winters two brothers Thomas Midland and W H Boots Hamlin.
The Den Dieters Club elected officers at the Monday meeting. Mrs. Bill Webb is president, Mrs. Charles Kruse vice president, Mrs. C. R. Pinkerton weight recorder, Mrs. Pearl Dunnam treasurer, and Mrs. Paul Gerhardt secretary-reporter. The group votes to meet Mondays at 6 pm and Kruse was crowned queen of the week with a contest planned to end May 15. Members present included Mesdames Carl Pendergrass D W Williams Oval King and Milt Bunger.
The Blue Jay girls little league basketball team was honored with a Coke party at the home of Mrs. James DeBerry on Monday afternoon. Attendees included Teresa Dry Celeste Sanchez Debbie Carey Donna Hamilton Teresa Wright Ruth Rainey Tanya Whittenburg Emerald Rodriquez Darlene Bowden Rhonda Davis and Marilyn Powers. Romalla Torres could not attend.
Mr and Mrs H F Slim Bredemeyer will be honored at a reception on Sunday April 16 at their home for their 50th wedding anniversary. Their children host the event and invite friends and relatives to call between two and five in the afternoon. The family requests no gifts. Attending descendants include E R Wessels J C Wessels F W Bredemeyer J D Wilson and Bobby Bredemeyer in the Armed Service stationed in Washington State.
Richard A. Thomasson 77 of Everman formerly Winters resident died March 21 at Forrest Hill Nursing Home after a six week illness. Funeral March 23 at Everman Church of Christ with ministers officiating. Buried Everman Cemetery. Born March 27 1894 in Montgomery County he moved to Runnels County in 1900. Married Nettie Crowson January 10 1915. Survived by wife son J R Thomasson sister Mattie Smith seven great granddaughters.
Miss Maria Shaw was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower at Mrs. T. V. Jennings home. Co Hostess Karla Melson assisted. Attendees included Mrs. J. L. Shaw, Mrs. Barry Smith of Kaufman, Mrs. William Oliver Cottingham II, and Linda Cottingham of Austin. The couple will wed June 10 at the Protestant Chapel, U. S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, with an Air Force Chaplain officiating.
The Women's Society of Christian Service met in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. Reverend Bob Sanders led prayer, president Mrs. M. L. Dobbins presided, and guest speaker Mrs. Dale Carter spoke about 15 years in Corrente Brazil with her husband. Guest registration listed 15 attendees and a covered dish luncheon followed for 26 members and guests.
The Wingate Sew and Sew Club gathered at the Baptist Church with Grace Smith as hostess. Members and four visitors attended and quilting was done for the hostess. The next meeting is set for April 11 at the Methodist Church with Minnie Williams hosting.
The Be Busy Sewing Club met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fred Poe for handwork. Present were Mesdames Etta Bryant G. T. Shott Wallie Brannon H. B. Parks George Lloyd M. H. Hogan O. M. Kane Lewis Blackmon Nadeen Smith David Allen Bill Millorn and the hostess. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Nadeen Smith's home on April 24.
The Future Homemakers of America at Winters High School thank the Winters community and visitors for contributions to the Easter Seal street sale on April 1. The event raised $135.03 for the Rehabilitation Center for crippled children.
