Five men died and about three score were injured when the Miners' Special derailed on a 25 foot embankment after spreading rails in severe cold. Five coaches jumped the track en route from Peoria to the Crescent coal mine at Hollis, Illinois. Fire followed briefly before being put out. Texan slashes throat on hotel balcony and dies

Los Angeles report states Richard Grant an 11 year old boy abducted last December by Harry Palmer is believed held by his captor in a shack between El Dorado and Lost Horse mines ten miles from Quail Springs.
