Japanese heavy artillery opened a terrific bombardment of the Chinese sector in Chapei near Kiangwan, with Hongkow forces and Chinese guns replying. The city of Shanghai trembled under the cannonading as attacks consolidated from Chapei to Woosung.
A heavy passenger bus en route from Los Angeles to Dallas collided with a stalled tank truck near Mohawk Arizona. Three people died and 16 were injured. Victims include Turney T Bowen Alvin Alexander Joyce McLasty. Driver George Blair and H C Daniels aided the scene pending coroner inquest.
Harlan Hull a night airmail pilot for Transcontinental and Western Air was forced to land about noon seven miles east of Leupp. A party left Winslow to search with Indian Agent J E Balmer reporting Hull reached Leupp on a horse and had washed out his landing gear. A truck was secured from the Indian agency to retrieve 600 pounds of westbound mail but Hull and another man have not been heard from. A second Northrop plane awaited the mail at Winslow.
A telegram quoted in the Winslow Daily Mail reports U.S. Senator Hayden has introduced a bill to authorize nine thousand dollars to provide school and hospital accommodations for Navajo students displaced by the flooding and abandonment of the Leupp site. Commissioner Rhoads favors smaller boarding schools and flexible locations rather to replace the Leupp plant.

The will of Sir Thomas Lipton filed for probate shows an estate valued at £566,068, about $1.953 million at current quotes. Duties are estimated at £225,000, roughly $776,250.
In Springfield Illinois on February 20 1950 the Illinois Supreme Court upheld Leo V Brothers conviction for the murder of Chicago underworld reporter Alfred J Lingle. Two of seven judges dissented. Prosecutors planned immediate transfer to Joliet State Penitentiary.

Mrs. Mabel Randall 36 drowned her two children Ruth four and Robert 30 months by submerging them in a bathtub and then took poison.
