Dilcon boarding and day school eyed for ultimate enrollment of 990 with 90 day students and 128 boarders. Officials discussed a 192 extra dormitory beds and 26 classrooms plus converting dining facilities and a multi purpose building to new uses, with a new kitchen and dining unit. Details from mid January Bureau of Indian Affairs meeting released this week.
A strong Alaska earthquake centered in a sparsely populated area near the Aleutian chain rattled the region at 12:06 a.m. EST. Officials reported magnitudes between 7.5 and 8 with no deaths or major damage. Warnings of tidal waves across the Pacific did not materialize.

In Selma and Marion Alabama arrests rose above 2300 in a widening Negro voter drive aimed at breaking white political control. The movement plans further marches in Selma and Marion, about 30 miles apart.
