Phoenix Arizona December 13 The state highway commission will appoint a new state engineer at its December 20 meeting to fill the vacancy created by the promotion of W W Lane. Lane who succeeded W C Lefebvre ousted by the commission filed his oath of office and began his new duties today.
Ed Gilson 18 formerly of Louisville Kentucky attempted suicide in Los Angeles after the death of his parents leaving him with his dog as his only companion. Police said sorrow over the puppy's death triggered the act and he was sent to the General Hospital psychopathic ward for treatment and observation where officials expect his recovery.

A tornado swept through Texas and Louisiana Wednesday night causing two deaths and about a dozen injuries. The winter twister, centered near Tenaha and Lufkin in Texas and affecting Sabine and De Soto parishes in Louisiana, left homes demolished, trees uprooted, and widespread damage across three communities before order was restored.

Jacob M. Dickinson former secretary of war in Taft's cabinet and Chicago attorney died in Chicago at St Luke's hospital after a gall bladder infection aged 78. He served as secretary of war from 1909 to 1911 and later practiced law in Chicago. Funeral services will be held in Nashville on Saturday.
Thornton Marker six year old son of Mr and Mrs J Marker of Yuma was struck by a truck near his home. He suffered severe injuries including knocked out teeth and a possible skull fracture.
In Sing Sing the condemned Moran 22 sat in his cell as the annual prison show No No Nanette played in the theatre. His execution was postponed from 11 p m to 1 a m to avoid distracting inmates and comply with visitors leaving an hour before execution. Moran had been named in police records since age 15 for auto theft and was sentenced to death for murdering two policemen two years ago.
Phoenix officers hunted unknown assailants after a unidentified Black man was found near a rock crushing plant on the city outskirts. A workman spotted the half buried body as a dog scratched at it. authorities believe the death came from a blunt head wound.
State highway commission report shows about 859195 dollars of projects completed in the last seven months in Arizona and another 2114152 dollars of projects currently under construction across the state. The findings cover both state and federal aid funded developments.
