War conditions drive displacement as authorities designate Tientsin as the evacuation center for citizens fleeing northern China amid rising anti foreign sentiment and military actions.
Holbrook Arizona April 5 oil samples from the Adamana well bailer after the Saturday blowout show gravity near 50 degrees indicating light oil that evaporates quickly. Witnesses say gas action boiled the bailings and oil did not separate until water was added as geologists and local operators seek the cause of gas accumulation during drilling pauses.
President Coolidge and his cabinet studied the Chinese crisis as Nanking reparations demands loom. Officials expect possible evacuation of Peking and other northern cities with Tientsin serving as a northern American assembly point. About 800 troops guard the rail line at Tientsin while 1500 marines head toward Chinese waters to protect nationals.
A New York jury found guilty 22 individuals and one corporation over the production of the play Sex. Five hours of deliberation led to verdicts against Mae West, Barrie O Neal, 18 cast members, and managers James A Timoney and Clarence W Morganstein. The 62nd Street Theatre Corp was acquitted and sentencing is set for April 19.
The bodies of a man and two women, all apparently slain, were found floating in the Clinch River three miles east of Sword's Creek, Russell County, Virginia. None had been identified. Commonwealth Attorney T. H. Wilson said the victims likely died eight to ten days earlier.
Plans to add a tubercular unit to the Methodist Sanatorium at Tucson were discussed at the district conference of the Southern Methodist church. Rev. J. L. Lyons, hospital commissioner of the Arizona conference, presented proposals for new buildings and renovations during the coming summer.
In Flagstaff Arizona an eleven month old baby of Mr and Mrs Frank Corrella died in a house fire of unknown origin that destroyed the home of Mrs Corrella's brother. Five other children were saved by firefighters who could not reach the infant. The Corrella family had recently moved from Tucson.
Ben F. Carter defeated Sue Henderson for city commissioner in Phoenix Aviz by 125 votes. Carter received 2 263 to Henderson 2 157, confirming a narrow victory in the April election.

In Scotts Bluff Nebraska on April 5 AP reports Chester Butler 16 and Mimer Butler 14 have been missing since February 26. Parents W E Butler fear for their sons who left home with little clothing and a few dollars. Chester is tall, slim with red hair and blue eyes, wearing a green felt hat, red blazer and overalls. Elmer is shorter and heavier, wearing a cap, sheepskin coat and gray trousers.
California legislators favor a double standard for alimony payers. The Senate judiciary committee recommended passage of a measure allowing husbands to obtain maintenance during the year between interlocutory and final decrees of divorce, a provision not yet standard for wives. California already is lenient to husbands lacking other means of support, with judges allowed alimony after the final decree.
Charley Chaplin faces a plagiarism suit in Federal court over the film Shoulder Arms. Leob alleges Chaplin used his plot from The Rookie. Leob claims $50,000 in damages. Chaplin's lawyers say the suit lacks foundation. Chaplin is expected to testify tomorrow.
Chicago voters cast the largest mayoral ballot in history with William Hale Thompson winning a third term as Republican mayor. He defeated Democrat William Dever and Independent John Robertson with about 431,434 to 371,553 votes from 2,000 of 2,384 precincts.
In San Francisco Bay four airplane cushions identified as belonging to the missing airmail plane carrying pilot Edward Neher and manager Alfred Schaller were found. Coast guard cutters assisted searchers who saw a plane over the bay as recovery work continued. The wives of the missing men were not told of the find and officials held little hope for the pilots.
In Des Moines, a district court action by William A. Lindley and six petitioners seeks to restrain Bankers Life Insurance from raising rates on old assessment certificates. Attorney John M. Stewart argues the company segregates old and new members, calls the plan unjust, and threatens cancellation if the April 1 1927 assessment is unpaid by May 1 1927.

Major Frank R. McReynolds, prohibition chief for the south west, told 300 Glendale churchmen that customs officials and sheriffs hinder enforcement of the Volstead Act. He cited resistance from government and county officials, with hampered efforts at San Pedro harbor and on the Mexican border.
Louis H. Schwaebe collector of customs in Los Angeles called Major Frank McReynolds one of the Prohibition administrators in southern California and Arizona and his claims that customs and other officials resist enforcement absurd and unfounded. He said customs men have long pursued liquor smugglers and conspiracies at the border and offered cooperation with city police on cases, despite McReynolds statements.
Paris reports physicians bulletin from Bucharest stating King Ferdinand I of Romania shows lower temperature and less acute grip yet Vienna dispatches claim he cannot take nourishment and grows weaker. Prince Carol stays at Neuilly near Paris as Romanian legation and authorities fear a disorderly royal return. Police guard around Carol’s villa is tripled at request of the Romanian legation.
The Winslow city council accepted the resignation of Justice of the Peace and police judge John Drumm with minor dissent. R Brachan was named successor over W A Vandebur amid debate on handling cases and pressure on the judge. The council also discussed sale of a motorcycle and consideration of a Graham truck conversion for the street department.
In San Francisco on April 4 AP report B J Mulready wins divorce from Mrs Marguerite Mulready with alimony of 450 and 750 for beatings. Superior Court Judge Thomas W Graham reverses usual pattern ordering the wife to pay 50 dollars for each beating.
