Henry Peyton in custody for a Sioux City murder trial confessed in Captain Reynolds' office that he robbed a large mercantile safe at Clydesdale Mississippi. The confession clears George Simmons of Clydesdale who had been driven from home amid the stigma of the alleged crime.
A masked mob of 60 to 100 men freed inmates from the Tunica jail and hanged three black men within a hundred yards of the jail. The victims were Frank Brown, David Moore, and William Brown, each linked to earlier shootings. No shots were fired.
Reports from St Johns Newfoundland detail a severe storm with eighteen vessels wrecked. Six ships wrecked near St Pierre and six in Placentia bay, four lost in Renews harbor, two in the Straights of Belle Isle, and four near Cape Bonavista.
