Scalon and Gypson dam across the Mississippi at Lake Bemidji outlet was destroyed by residents after being built without a fishway and without congressional approval. Back water flooded Bemidji cellars and the health board ordered removal as river obstruction. The dam, meant to transport logs to Cap Lake, raised Bemidji water level by four feet and halted fish runs for a month.
