Perjury conviction leads to family tragedy and suicides
In Bellaire Ohio Manley Mason is jailed for perjury after lying about his worth to secure his son's release. His wife, learning of the appeal failure, attacked their children with a butcher knife, nearly killing the six year old girl while the ten year old boy blocked further harm until neighbors intervened. In New York Gustav Feischer, fearing poverty, attempted suicide by jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge but was saved. His letter home pleads for work and his family's support.
