Revised Bible Version Issued In Five Volumes

London May 18 the first complete revised Bible in five royal volumes was presented to Queen Victoria as the first copies issued for comment were sent to the press. The public may buy it next Tuesday Pentecost. revisions alter many Old Testament passages and Psalms while preserving core beliefs.

Faithless Husband Killed by German Wife in Lavelle

In Lavelle Pennsylvania on Friday night G Bickerl a German immigrant who arrived in 1834 and lived with widow Mrs David Stringer was shot twice and died early Saturday. A strange woman entered the house and fled after the pistol with two empty chambers lay nearby. Bickerl had a wife and three children in Germany and a detective weighs the possibility of an overseas link to the killer.

Escape attempt ends with fall from jail roof

Boston May 18 Henry G Edwards sentenced seven years for burglary escaped from his harness shop at the jail by climbing to the roof and attempting to swing along telegraph wires. Guards fired, he fell 40 feet, one bullet grazing his left ankle. He thanked the warden and invoked Patrick Henry liberty or death as he was taken to hospital. Injury not considered dangerous.

Death in the Flames in Cleveland and Iowa Farm Fires

A Cleveland fire on Ontario Street caused four stories to burn with Mrs. Sawyer suffocating and Frederick Roth’s 10 year old son found charred. Frederick Roth and his family were injured, H E King broke bones, firemen injured by glass, and losses totaled across tenants and businesses. Multiple other incidents spread from Ohio to Iowa and beyond, including burns in Colaba and disasters in Chicago and Ashland with mining and railroad danger, and a mock prayer meeting riot ending in deadly stabbings.
