A box showcases three cakes of Royal Bouquet Toilet Soap milled and perfumed valued at 20 cents. Also listed is a large package of Medicated Toilet Paper containing 1000 sheets, plus a Blaisdell covered lead pencil with rubber eraser previously priced. A 15 cent Hanging Basket with wire holder is offered as well.
Lord Roberts reports entering Kroonstad at 1:30 pm amid cheers after a largely unopposed advance. President Steyn fled last evening as Transvaalers abandoned resistance on Free State soil and headed toward the Vaal river. Generals Botha and De Wet accompanied the fugitives. Lindley proclaimed as Free State government seat.
May 12 reports Lord Roberts welcomed by British residents at Kroonstad as Free State and Transvaal quarrel weakens. Boers trek to Vaal river, bridges damaged, French encamps northeast. Many arrests and deportations for sympathy with British. Steyn moves to Lindley. prisoners see war nearing end with mixed loyalties.

The House plans to send the last general supply, deficiency and military academy appropriation bills to the Senate this week and adjourn as soon as they are enacted and conference differences settled. Conference reports will have priority through the session end. Leaders expect adjournment sine die around June 1 but may push to June 10 if delays occur.
Minneapolis report confirms the Gillette Herzog Manufacturing Minneapolis plant has merged into the American Bridge company. The deal closed at midnight Saturday with instructions to run the plant until a permanent board of directors is elected. Executives expect the Minneapolis site to operate at least a year and foresee possible permanent continuation.

In Cutcano May 14 representatives of 19 union labor organizations agreed to a thorough investigation of Chicago labor difficulties. A seven member arbitration committee will be appointed, including three union members outside the building trades council, three citizen representatives, and Professor Graham Taylor of the Chicago Theological Seminary. The move aims to settle contractor and worker differences.
Report from Madrid states the queen regent has signaled Premier Silvera to enforce government authority in the rebellious provinces or resign. Taxpayer resistance to new taxes grows, with Madrid and 20 provincial capitals refusing to submit to what is deemed unjust exaction.

Washington May 14 The Post reports an order will remove E G Rathbone director general of posts in Cuba for Cuban postal frauds. He is held extravagant and responsible for lax postal affairs leading to about 100000 dollars embezzled. He is not charged with complicity but likely no further connection with the Cuban government will follow a reorganization to prevent future frauds.
Havana May 14 authorities will reveal evidence in court. C F W Neely is linked to a brickyard valued around 16000 dollars with an estimated 80 percent interest. Military authorities keep evidence sealed until trial.
Detectives say a five year scheme in Chicago drained water department funds by tampering with meters. Clarence M Wolfe and George W Piggott of the water office are jailed on conspiracy charges while seven others face surveillance. The plan altered meter dials to reduce recorded usage and steal thousands of dollars.
News from Proro Illinois on May 14 reports former Mine Workers Union president Ratchford has resigned from the labor commission. Indications suggest President McKinley may consider endorsing Grand Master Frank P. Sargent or Grand Secretary Frank W. Arnold for the vacancy, supported by railroad employes nationwide.

A large part of the American machinery has been sold to French buyers since the opening and all exhibited may be sold before the close. French firms have already opened negotiations for most of it.
