Bloemfontein reports say the Boers move south in force toward Glen and aim to retake Bloemfontein within a week. Reinforcements from Bloemfontein arrive including Seventh division and part of General French's cavalry as Johannesburg police raid returning burghers.
British and Boer forces concentrate about 15 miles north of Bloemfontein with Glen in the rear as Lord Roberts shifts French cavalry and infantry to join the fourteenth brigade and supporting regiments. Boers raid near Bloemfontein as Methuen's forces are recalled to Kimberley. General Parsons moves into Kenhardt unopposed while Roberts plans to police Free State towns and Basutoland watch from Maseru reports. Mafeking bombarded seven hours Tuesday.
General Joubert fell ill Sunday, suffered acute abdominal inflammation and died. He will lie in state until Monday and be buried quietly at the Rustfontein farm near Wakkerstroom, without military honors, per his wish. Michael Davitt has gone toKnrostadt.
Lord Methuen's force has returned to Kimberley from the Barkly district. Mounted troops under him are expected to arrive tomorrow after being at Lyakhong when the order was received.

Sir William Van Horne, chairman of the Canadian Pacific, returns from Cuba and says his investments will be substantial though not as large as rumored. He cites confidence in Cuban enterprises and credits Governor General Wood for stable conditions, awaiting U S self government for the island.
Lord Curzon told the council on the budget that drought damaged wheat by 8 to 10 million pounds and cotton by 7 million. Oil seed crop largely failed outside Bengal and the Northwest, Bombay’s food crops suffered 15 million pounds loss and cotton 4.01 million. He warned no government can predict such vast natural ruin.
BeErlin March 30 Kaiser Wilhelm assures Ambassador White that growing U S Germany commerce will not be destroyed and adds that his government will prevent disruption White asks about using good relations with the sultan of Turkey to open Arabia for archaeological excavations but the Kaiser cites difficulties.
A Washington dispatch reports General Harrison wrote a strong letter to Secretary Hay on the Boer question. He is credited with expressing hope that the Boers find a place on the green earth where they may live unmolested by the British, noting their sacrifices and displacement due to British aggression.
Maxenestes Kentucky March 8 The Negro Dick Coombe alias Coombs alleged to have fired the shot that killed Governor Goebel has been arrested at Beattyville. The warrant accuses him as accessory to the assassination. Coombs was previously convicted in this city for running a blind tiger and fined 4000 dollars. He escaped after conviction and reappeared after Wharton Golden's Frankfort confession.
Lexington dispatch reproduces Winchester gossip about Youtzey and a planned confession by Culton. James Andrew Scott urged Youtzey to confess to hang Taylor and weaken the Republican party while discussions at the Reese House aimed to secure money for Youtzey. Judge French and N H Witherspoon debated the motive. Cincinnati report notes Campbell denies Goebel shot by the same feudist and corroborates Culton confession rumors.
Grand jury returns three indictments against Captain Andrew J. Thomas of the Tenderloin precinct for failing to close resorts including the Tivoli Bohenia Haymarket Arcadia Pekin amid a city wide crusade against vice. The charges allege police protection of open vice operations in New York City.
New York March 80. Word arrives on the steamship Athos from Colon that Colombia's revolution is causing government uneasiness. Garrisons are being moved from Colon and northern barracks to the south to fight.
