A Kimberley dispatch reports British cavalry have entered the Transvaal and advanced to 18 miles north of Christiana. Forces at Fourteen Streams are being strengthened and a northward movement is expected soon.
March reports say little progress toward Mafeking relief. A Kimberley lieutenant notes starting for Mafeking with relief column. Lord Roberts redirects after Cronje’s escape. Kitchener criticized for tactical errors at Paardeberg and for rumored friction with Roberts.
Lieutenant Lygon was killed and Lieutenant Colonel Crabbe, Lieutenant Colonel Codrington, and Captain Trotter were seriously wounded after riding beyond their camp with one trooper. The group surrendered and the Boers carried the wounded to a farmhouse for care.
A Mafeking dispatch dated March 14 notes heavy shelling, several casualties, and ongoing trench skirmishes. It cites Major John N. Nicholson and Baden-Powell reporting all well to March 13 with a relaxed enemy cordon. The piece also mentions a growing native food shortage.

He said he helped bring the men to the capital and that they planned to kill Democratic members if needed. He described warnings of Goebel’s murder and named others involved in the conspiracy.
Lansing March 26 it is stated that Samuel W Bickerstaff an agent for the Henderson Ames company connected with the alleged frauds will be arrested next He testified that he paid conspirators their share of profits and the defense plans a criminal charge based on that transaction in court this past week
Washington March 26 The Fifteenth Minnesota men in Fort Monroe confinement will be released immediately after the president accepts Representative Fletcher's request and orders remission of the remaining sentence. The War Department directs Fort Monroe to carry out the release upon receipt of the order.
The Stoughton academy, run by the Norwegian Lutheran synod, was totally destroyed by fire on March 26. It housed 112 students from Iowa Minnesota Illinois and the Dakotas. Officials say the pecuniary loss is not heavy and the academy will probably be rebuilt.
The Danish cabinet informed the king of its desire to resign due to the Folkething's opposition to the government's taxation plan. Ministers will stay in office until the end of the parliamentary session.

In Sherman hall St Paul Democrats split into Bell and anti Bell factions. Police backed the Bell side while 100 deputy sheriffs backed the other led by Deputy Sheriff Robert. The two factions held simultaneous sessions with two chairmen. Willis led the Bell ticket for mayor and ex Mayor Robert A. Smith led the rival slate.
Secretary Root declares funds from the special relief act for Porto Rico will follow Governor General Davis recommendations. He credits Davis with clear knowledge of local needs and telegraphs from Havana granting Davis full authority to hire labor for public works and act for the island’s welfare.
Frankfort March 26 The Republican adjutant general Collier denied that mines were being laid around the arsenal and capitol grounds He said some indiscreet men had dug trenches and pretended to lay mines to create a sensation but the work had no sanction from Collier and the men have been sharply reprimanded.
John Redmond leader of the Irish Nationalist party in the House of Commons along with T P O Connor and Timothy Healy addressed a major Irish demonstration in Liverpool on March 26. Redmond congratulated Irishmen on reunification saying they met under happy auspices for the first time in a decade and stood on the same platform as his colleagues.
Reports claiming Bulgaria leased Boorghan port to Russia for 50 years are false. In Roumelia, the denial emphasizes no concession. Also noted, Rabbi Igac Wige of Cincinnati suffers a paralytic stroke with family at his bedside and relatives informed abroad.
The transport Isla del Luzon has arrived with troops and civilians who were prisoners of the Filipinos. The ship brings release and return of captives to this port.
