Enjoined Iowa Commissioners Face Suit Over Rail Freight Rates

Des Moines dated June 20. Iowa railway commissioners were served a temporary restraining order to appear in Leavenworth July 5 to show cause why they should not be permanently enjoined from implementing the new maximum freight rates. Plaintiffs include the Chicago and Northwestern, Chicago Burlington and Quincy, and Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul lines. Attorney General Baker will represent the commissioners. The Northwestern Railway also announced free lumber shipments for Dakota construction from Winona to Dakota points, effective until July 31. In Minneapolis, documents seek a receiver for the Minneapolis and St Louis railway to reorganize and reduce interest, with no expected harm to St Paul or Minneapolis. Eastern Minnesota track-laying progresses from Superior to Nemadji River, while other end remains unfinished. Wabash and Chicago and Atlantic may set 35 cent dressed beef rates from Chicago to New York and seaboard cities.
